Ethnicity Representation

There is a channel 4 series called Top Boy where there is a negative representation of black people within the text. In this TV series we see black men people heavily involved in gangs, violence and drugs; basically crimes that are stereotypically linked with black people. On the trailer that we see for Top Boy season two we see in the very first scene the mise en scene that they use is a block of flats in London, which is typically populated by a lot of ethnic minorities such as black people and this is done to confirm the stereotype. There are other elements of mise en scene that's used to confirm the stereotype like the younger black people being dressed in track suits and the language that they use.

Whereas in this channel 4 series Youngers there is a representation of black people but it doesn't appear to be negative. In this trailer we see mise en scene such as clothing that would indicate the the characters are shown as humorous, for instance in the opening scenes were we see a character called Yemi dressed in a blazer in the middle of town performing for his church. Also rather than the characters confirming the stereotype, they are used for contradicting it, this is as we see them in the same mise en scene location as the other text I used above but they aren't being associated with things such as violence, drugs and gangs.
